It’s Not all Smoke and Mirrors

With a grant from TMA Foundation, children and adults alike will learn about the health risks of smoking and tobacco use, particularly vaping and using e-cigarettes, through TMA’s updated traveling exhibit, Smoke and Mirrors.

Originally produced in 2009, this banner series highlights how the industry has promoted smoking by integrating it into everyday activities and rebuffed scientific evidence on the hazards of smoking. It also highlights the heroic efforts of Texas physicians to combat smoking misinformation.

TMAF’s grant will fund a new banner design and updated content targeted at children 12 years and older, including science-based facts on the dangers of vaping and using e-cigarettes because of harmful toxins such as diacetyl, an addictive flavoring that causes scarring of the lungs and brain impairment.

The exhibit will be displayed in school libraries and other institutions throughout the state. To reserve a banner series for your office, school or other display, Contact the Knowledge Center at Nancy Semin or call 512-370-1552.
